⚖️ Crime is dropping on SEPTA this year
October 17, 2025 · — Siani Colón
Hey, y’all! Are you reading this from Philly, or elsewhere? I’ve heard of supercommuting from Philly to New York, but one Philadelphian is going the extra mile (or several hundred miles) and commuting to work in Atlanta. Would you make this trip?
Whether you’re here or several states away, we’re always happy to have you 🧡

What's CITY Talking About
🗞️ Suspect in Custody As Search for Missing Woman Continues
Keon King, 21, surrendered to police this week in connection with the disappearance of 23-year-old Kada Scott. Scott went missing on Oct. 4 after leaving her workplace. King had been charged earlier this year with kidnapping in an unrelated incident, but that case was withdrawn. Scott, meanwhile, has yet to be found. [🎧 City Cast Philly]

🚌 SEPTA Crime Crackdown Sees Results
SEPTA announced a drop in incidents in seven of eight serious crime categories so far this year compared to this time last year. SEPTA credits its fare evasion enforcement tactics, with Transit Police issuing more than 6,500 citations this year. [CBS Philly]
🗳️ Dems Plotting To Knock Off Fetterman in 2028 Senate Primary
Although Sen. John Fetterman thinks the rumors of potential challengers are just “clickbait,” the contenders themselves haven’t ruled anything out. Top Democrats are looking at U.S. Reps. Brendan Boyle and Chris DeLuzio, and former Rep. Conor Lamb, to run against the increasingly MAGA-adjacent Democratic senator in 2028. [Axios]
- Related: Lamb has spent the past few months going on a listening tour to hear the wants and needs of Pennsylvanians, and he has advice to share with his party. [🎧 City Cast Philly]
🎓 Penn Refuses to Kiss the Ring
Penn, along with Brown University and MIT, rejected the Trump administration’s proposal for preferential federal funding in exchange for sweeping policy changes. The agreement would have had a great impact on the university’s admissions, governance, and finances, with a five-year tuition freeze and a cap on international student admissions. 🛹 Pieces of Philly’s Skate Culture Live On in Sweden
The redesign of Love Park, which was considered a landmark so iconic it was featured in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video games, was a significant loss to Philly’s skateboarding community. Now granite ledges and other repurposed materials from the plaza have found a new home in a skatepark in Sweden, of all places. [🔒 New York Times]
