🚆 SEPTA’s service disruptions begin to wane
January 13, 2026 · — Siani Colón
Hey Philly, the city could use your help! The Office of Homeless Services and Continuum of Care need volunteers to survey Philadelphians experiencing homelessness and connect them to resources. The annual count helps inform strategies to address homelessness in the years to come. Interested volunteers have until tomorrow to register.

What's CITY Talking About
Blame Game Begins at End of Eagles’ Season
We’re still processing what exactly happened Sunday night, and so are the Eagles. The team is evaluating everyone’s performance this season, but offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo is bearing the brunt of the heat. Is he to blame for the team’s ultimate loss, or merely a scapegoat? Either way, please refrain from throwing eggs at his house again. [NBC Sports Philadelphia, ESPN]

SEPTA Restores Regional Rail and Trolley Services
SEPTA resumed the Regional Rail’s express service after completing federally mandated inspections for its railcars. The trolley tunnel has also officially reopened. After two months of repairs, daytime service through the tunnel will be back to normal, but service between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. will be suspended indefinitely for ongoing maintenance. Public School Partnerships Bring Care Directly to Kids
For about three years, a converted science lab at W.D. Kelley School has been operating as a dental clinic. In partnership with Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry, this clinic serves all Philadelphia children regardless of insurance status or where they go to school. School district officials say this collaboration is a model for the reuse of available school space for the public good. [🔒 The Inquirer]
Family Demands Answers After ICE Detainee Dies
Parady La, a Cambodian immigrant, was arrested by ICE outside his Upper Darby home and detained at the Federal Detention Center in Center City. While in custody, he began experiencing severe drug withdrawal and died at a Philly hospital last week. Advocates say the death could have been prevented if detention center staff had followed Pennsylvania Department of Health protocols. [KYW]

Low Cost & Low ABV Philly Activities

Happy Hour has become the go-to activity to kick back and relax after work. But what if you’re sober, cutting back on your alcohol intake, or just tired of only hanging out at the bar? Finding after-hours hangs can be tough, but if you look close enough, Philly has a range of zero-proof options to start your night with.

Grab a Late Night Snack (or Drink)
You deserve a treat after work. If you’re craving something sweet, visit Chinatown’s A La Mousse Cake and Cafe. Known for its cute pastries in unique shapes like lambs and pandas, customers can opt for just a slice or the whole cake. If you’re feeling thirsty, you can choose from milkshakes, hot tea, or bubble tea. A La Mouse is open until 11 p.m. every day except Friday and Saturday, when hours are extended until midnight.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Bar Palmina, Fishtown’s non-alcoholic bar 一 and the only one left in the city. If you are looking for the bar experience with exclusively zero-proof options, its extensive menu changes regularly. Sip on these craft cocktails anytime between 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays, and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
Watch a Movie
Catch up on the latest releases or watch some niche films with one of Philly’s film clubs. Whether you’re into horror, sci-fi, or genre-bending flicks, movie nights can be a laid-back way to socialize with other movie buffs.
Go Birding
Not everyone is comfortable with solo nighttime outings in nature. Instead, try getting some fresh air at night with groups like Philly Queer Birders and Bird Philly. These birding clubs host meetups in the evening, as both dawn and dusk are optimal to catch avians in flight. And if you want to explore on your own time, these are some of the best birding spots in Philly.
Have a Game Night
If you want to talk (or yell) over something other than a drink, why not a board game? Philly is home to several game cafes, including Queen & Rook, Board and Brew, and BUBS.
Maisy’s Meeting House also has an extensive game library, from card games to video games, available during its regular game nights. Snacks and nonalcoholic beverages are also available. Be sure to visit Maisy’s on other nights for a Super Smash melee tournament, trading card night, and Mario Kart tournament.
